Contesting
During an Amateur Radio Contest, an amateur radio operator(s) attempts to contact as many other amateur radio stations as possible in a given period of time. The two radio operators must exchange some contact information. The amateur station is given points for each successful contact made. The station with the most points at the end of the time period wins the contest. See the complete Contesting definition here.
The Northern Amateur Radio Club usually assembles a team of club members to participate in two friendly radio contests. These contests are sponsored by Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) and are very popular with ham community. The RAC Winter Contest is held between Christmas and New Years. The RAC Canada Day contest in always July 1st. If you have never participated in a contest, the RAC contests are a great way to try out this radio sport. They offer a fun and relaxed atmosphere for the beginner and more time for those who like to chat a bit.
RAC Winter Contest
